West Michigan innovator finds solution to erosion with moveable beach stairs

WEST MICHIGAN — Lisa Spaugh hadn’t seen her waterfront deck in almost two decades when a 2020 storm system whipped the mountain of sand off them. Then Lake Michigan crashed in, swept up the deck and shredded it. The stairs followed, rolling with the waves and sailing down the lakeshore.

In the days that followed, Spaugh went looking for her stairs. Waders on and ropes strapped around her, Spaugh pulled her stairs out and down the beach a mile home. The wheels started turning for Spaugh, a real estate broker and sales director at World Class Prototypes.
